No idea what it’s worth, but if you got it you should turn it into a Hatari! game truck.
Also, the Series I ‘86 (1958 or so) and Series II or IIA Rover lurking in the background are choice.

It depends on if you think you can get the brakes up and running on site, or you’re going to tow that thing out of there. That won’t be cheap.

Oops, screwed up on the Series I ID - it’s an ‘80, the earlier version. 1952 or something like, because the fender tops are one-piece. The II/IIA is most likely a mid-year (‘63-’67) IIA due to Four Wheel Drive Station Wagon badge.

I need to move to California. I thought I had it good doing restorations in Virginia (as opposed to Maine, where I grew up), but dear god, the lack of rust on that thing...

1 find out how much it weighs
2 find its scrap value
3 subtract tow cost from scrap value
4 offer 125-150% of scrap value minus tow.

is that a 4x4 12 passenger ford van parked next to it??
but....... back to the question........... pretty near anything up to or around $2k..... just know that the front fenders are different than the smaller trucks(larger wheel openings) and that the brakes are a bit more expensive on the 2, and 2 1/2 ton trucks........ you could sell off the working dump bed. and get a chunk of your money back right there...... or convert the dump bed to a tilt flat bed, or just a stationary flat bed. inline 6, and probably a sm420 mucie 4 speed. so long as you keep oil and water in them, they are hard to kill......
if it has the split ring wheels, that it looks like it does, then budget replacing them....... those things can kill a guy ( the one working on them) most shops, that know anything about anything wont touch them........
check it for papers......
get it for as cheap as you can manage, but like i said........ i wouldnt feel bad up to and about $2ooo, seeing as how everything seems to be there.
you might spend another 1500 to get it all “legal”..........

Thank you. Your input is what I was looking for. I would look at hybridizing, keeping the engine/trans and looking for a more modern axle/suspension with upgraded brakes and non-split ring wheels. I did split rings in the Army. Kind of enjoyed it, actually...
Yes, 4x4 van, diesel powered. Are you even marginally interested in it?

i have only ever gotten to see them momentarily in passing.......... i HATE working on vans...... BUT the absurdity of the whole thing, all the 4x4 goodness tucked in the front of a van........ just spectacular........i couldnt possibly meet my heroes...... i have about 4 projects going as it is.........
Back to the ‘47
the 1 ton and down 47s fit onto the squarebody chevy trucks (73-90?)very nearly perfectly....... the frame width is within about 1/2 to about an inch, from what my friends tell me (i would have to measure to be certain(my friends have updated several 50ish trucks this way))........ and if you managed to get a 1 ton frame, the taller wheels might fill the ‘47 front fenders fairly decent. the rest of the front clip is pretty well all the same, aside from the fenders,
the inline, and 420, get about 10-15 TOPS miles per gallon. you could gear up a good ways, and the torque from the inline would lug it just fine.

Wikipedia’s article on the Chevrolet Advance Design Truck makes me think it’s a ‘47.
I’d rather it have a much lighter suspension than a one-ton because I’ll only be puttering around with it. A dumping flat bed is a nice idea.

1 tons ride nice and soft*..........*(provided you have enough weight) but if you arent heavy enough, it would ride like an iron wheeled wagon.........

i was going to mention, that a lot of those old brake set ups seep at the wheel cylinders, and that they just drain themselves out over time......... sometimes you can get lucky, and fill them back up, and bleed them, and they will work for a good little while......... driving those older trucks, just takes a bit of planning (no panic stops) downshifting when stopping.......
make the offer, and let him mull it over for a while.......... CA$H......

i was thinking about for taking the truck cruising up, and around the neighborhood......... until you got the parts together to put the half ton bits underneath it........ “who wants to go for ICE CREAM.??........ in the 47??.........yeah well, more for me.....”

Pretty much. It’s a four-mile commute to the middle school where I teach math. And there’s a parade in town a couple times a year.
I did split rings in the Army; they don’t intimidate me at all. I just make sure it’s in the tire cage when I inflate it.

i have gotten to assist with the split rings changing out tires on them........ yeah, they are fine*.........*so long as the grooves that interlock are in good shape, and havent rusted to crap. once they rust up a bit, they lose that crisp edge that latches. when the tires first seat to the edge of the bead, and pop into place, thats a whole lot of force tied up there in that little spot. when we aired them up for the first time we didnt have a cage, so we ran a chain around the tire , through the rim, and used one of the lock on, and walk away chucks............ exciting stuff to be sure.......
